Walkthrough

PHOENIX is an Aft Cockpit Catalina 36 MK II that has only been sailed in the fresh waters of a lake in South Dakota.  This well-maintained, one-owner boat has very low engine hours, roller furling sails, a wing keel, air conditioning, navigation instruments, autopilot, a home theater sound system, custom winter cover and much more to make your sailing experiences comfortable, easy and fun.

Once aboard PHOENIX spacious wide side decks give way to a comfortable Aft Cockpit with port and starboard bench seating flanking a centerline drop leaf table and an aft centered helm.  This area features a removable 40” Edson Destroyer wheel, leather wrapped for comfort, a Ritchie SP 5 binnacle compass, a Nav pod electronics station and seating port and starboard.  Further outboard are port and starboard "Cat Bird" seats with custom closed cell foam cushions and rail back cushions at the aft rail.  Additionally at the aft rail is a walk through transom gated by a four step fold down stainless steel swim ladder down one small step.

Access to below is via a custom centerline varnished teak and smoked Plexiglass hinged hatch which leads forward into the cabin.  The Plexiglass panels are removable with insect screens behind.  Below the steps is access to the single diesel Universal M35 30 HP 4 cylinder 75.5 cu. in freshwater cooled engine.

Immediately to port is the full Galley laid out in a functional U shape.

Equipment includes:

Composite countertops
Double stainless steel sinks
Adler Barbour 12 volt refrigerated cooler 5.75 cu. ft.
Large food storage locker
Gimballed stainless steel 2 burner stove & oven
Microwave oven
Pressure water system, hot & cold
Cutting board on top of stove top
Large open access built in trash receptacle
Fiberglass sole
Ample drawer & cabinet storage

The Nav station with breakers and electronics is located immediately to starboard.

Next forward is a two person game table/dinette with table, storage below, cushions and fore and aft satin varnished teak cabinets above.  This dinette table lowers to form a single berth.

Further forward is a Sharp Aquos 20” LCD TV and VCR mounted behind a tambour door.

Opposite to port is a large and inviting L shaped settee with storage below.  A fold down table seats four to five and further converts to sleep two.  Outboard are teak louvered door cabinets to match those to starboard with an opening port light with shades between.

The sole of this area is beautiful teak and holly.

Next forward is the yacht’s Head with a marine toilet, molded sink, curtain shower, ample storage and a molded sole.

Next forward is the Vee Berth Cabin.  There is a filler to create one large berth, storage below the berth includes two fold out hampers and three drawers in addition to the dressing bureau which has a large sliding mirrored cabinet and a ¾ high louvered teak hanging locker.  A deck hatch above provides great natural light.  This cabin also has a private entrance to the Head.

Going aft from the entryway is a large double berth under the Cockpit, usually referred to as the Master Cabin by the larger size of the berth.  There is an upholstered headboard, fixed dead lights, drawer and hanging locker storage and a surprisingly spacious feeling.

A 16,000 BTU Cruiseair air conditioning system provides cooling and reverse cycle heat.  The controls are digital.

Manufacturer Provided Description

Because the Catalina 36 is easily handled by a couple, has a big comfortable cockpit, a spacious interior with two private cabins and the integrity to pursue cruising dreams, many experienced sailors consider the Catalina 36 the perfect boat for their sailing lifestyle. The Catalina 36 MkII has all the important characteristics that made the original the most popular 36-foot sailboat in the world. The Mark II Catalina 36 is built in the same seakindly moderate displacement hull. It tracks surely and performs well in a variety of conditions. The deck is the classic trunk cabin configuration - galley is a functional 'U' shape, with composite countertops, the sinks are near centerline for proper drainage underway. A large refrigerated icebox is aft and a dry food locker is forward. A gimbaled, stainless steel LPG stove with oven is standard equipment. The main cabin is arranged with a wall-stored dinette table. The two seats and game table to starboard can be made into a settee or berth with the cushions provided. The entertainment center cabinet is fitted with a concealed TV. The main cabin and all interior teak has the warmth and durability only obtained with multiple coats of varnish. The 36 has stainless steel handrails and anodized spars, reducing maintenance on deck and extending the sailing season. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems have been re-engineered to increase dependability and accessibility. Engine access, for example, is excellent, with the one-piece, insulated enclosure removed. The hull is rugged, hand-laminated, solid fiberglass; the keel is lead with integrally cast stainless steel bolts. The mast is stepped through the deck on the keel and has inline spreaders and fore and aft lower shrouds, a sturdy arrangement that is easy to tune.
