Owner's Comments

In 2010 we made a decision to sail around mainland Britain. After extensive research, sea trials and visits to boatyards to find the most suitable yacht we decided it had to be Hallberg Rassy and when we found BELLA ROSA we had to have her. During the 4 years we've owned her, we brought her back from Holland through the canals and across the Channel, successfully completed our round Britain challenge, circumnavigated Ireland and have spent many weeks and long weekends sailing along the South Coast and visiting places like the Isles of Scilly. During that time she has been 100% trouble free.

She's had regular maintenance and services and is laid up ashore under a 2/3rds winter cover with heaters and dehumidifiers between end-October and mid-March.

BELLA ROSA inspires absolute confidence. She sails like a dream in open water and is reliable and easily manoeuvrable when mooring in confined spaces (the bow thrusters have been known to come in handy for the odd badly judged berthing!). She's perfect for a couple to manage by themselves, but can also easily accommodate two more adults, even in wet weather when the new cockpit cover turns the cockpit into a cosy extra room. She's robust in all weathers and because there is in mast furling, the hoisting, reefing etc. is done from the safety and shelter of the cockpit.

BELLA ROSA performs superbly sailing close hauled or on a reach and provides a comfortable and safe passage even in moderate to rough seas. Our passage planning is typically based on 6kts, and if the wind dies her powerful 55hp Yanmar engine takes over quietly and efficiently. Most other 37' yachts will have a 25-30hp engine, but Hallbergs always provide that bit extra which has proved indispensable when we've found ourselves punching a strong tide or needing to get out of trouble entering a difficult harbour.

The saloon and cabin have clearly been designed by people who sail! They are incredibly practical, safe and comfortable, with fittings and joinery of the highest quality. We've loved living aboard and happily managed 3 solid months together on our round Britain trip. When we've been out in a frosty March there's a great little heater that makes it warm and cosy down below within 5 minutes.

Our decision to sell was a hard one, but we have two daughters and their other halves whose experience of sailing a Hallberg Rassy has encouraged them to sail with us more and more and we now need enough room to accommodate 6 on longer passages. So, we're going up a size to a 43'.

BELLA ROSA has been an absolute joy to own and we will be very sad to say goodbye. She's been such a significant part of our sailing life and the most important member of our team. Our consolation is that we are 100% sure that whoever buys her will love her and enjoy sailing her as much as we have.
