Overview

Iconic German Frers that was built to sail the world.  She's done all that and looks the business, still with her first owner and now ready for new adventures.

Owner's Remarks

We commissioned the build of MATATA as we planned a world trip with the whole family.  For this reason, Nautor carried out some small modifications to the yacht for long distance sailing. These included chart storage, dry food storage and various other tweaks to the normal specification.

MATATA has served our family well.  On launch we joined the Bluewater Rally and circumnavigated the globe.  Because of her great sailing performance we were able to take part in Regattas such as the King’s Cup in Phuket.  Using her normal wardrobe she always made a good account of herself.

After the World Rally, in 2001, after the Jubilee Regatta in Cowes, we and MATATA crossed the Atlantic and cruised the Caribbean and competed in both the Heineken and BVI Regattas.   After a visit to Bermuda, we sailed home to Scotland.

In 2003, with a new rig (the original suffered some fatigue and it was decided to replace it) we headed for the Mediterranean and had a happy 5 years of cruising in France, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus.   During this period we also managed some racing, sailing back to the UK for a couple of Cork Weeks and the Fastnet in 2003.

Since 2009, MATATA has based in Scotland and we have cruised her locally.  She has always been a marvellous home, sparkling sailing yacht and excellent sea boat.  We have maintained her consistently and she has proved a reliable and charming friend.  We are now selling her as we lack the time to use her as we should.  We are sure that her next owners will find her as rewarding and enjoyable to own and sail aboard as we have.

Broker's Remarks

MATATA is offered for sale after a Berthon pit stop to make her gleam as she should. The photographs reflect the way that she looks today. The works were not significant structural work, but work to make her fresh and ready for a new yachtsman. This work has included –

·         Cleaning and polishing of the propeller and shaft and replacement of the anodes.

·         2 coats of antifouling.

·         Removal and cleaning of the running rigging ready for commissioning.

·         Clean and tidy up of the main engine.

·         Companionway varnish work.

·         Wax and polish externally and careful cleaning of the teak decks.

·         Interior valet and cleaning of upholstery and curtains.
