Remarks

Built by Paul Molich in Denmark, MYSTIC was originally owned by Harold Oldak and sailed on Long Island Sound. Her current owner has kept her in Chicago for 40 years and updated her systems. The diesel engine dates from the 90's and her sails from early 2000's. The solid dodger in the front of the cockpit is original and something current builders could learn from.  The owner reports some wood work to be done in the transom but other than that she is  in sound shape. He has taken very good care of her for many years and thinks it is time to turn her over the helm to a new wooden boat enthusiast who will enjoy her as much as he has.

Accommodations

V berth forward with a hanging locker and drawer stowage, an overhead hatch  and two opening ports.  The bulkheads and bunk faces are maple, trimmed in mahogany around the drawers and lockers. The ceiling slats on the inside of the hull are mahogany. The cabin sole is teak and holly and the overhead is white with mahogany trim and handrails. Looking at the pictured from her launching, very little has been changed. The head is to port by the mast with another hanging locker to starboard. The main salon has settee and pilot berths on either side with a mahogany, drop leaf table on the centerline. On the forward bulkhead is a Tiny Tot heating stove. Aft is the galley on either side of the companionway with stainless counter tops, refrigerator to port, stove to starboard, large stainless sink next to the companionway and ample storage behind and under the counters. It is a very comfortable cabin with another overhead hatch and a sliding screen for the companionway.

Construction

Beautifully built by Molich in Denmark, the hull is double planked mahogany over oak frames, bronze fastened. The stem and keel are white oak oak and the ballast keel is lead. Teak deck with mahogany cabin house and coamings. This owner had her refastened below the water line and one plank replaced. He has a CD of the work.

Deck

Large cockpit with wonderful solid dodger with glass windows typical of the era. The helm has been converted to a wheel but other than that from the binnacle to the ventilators, she is all original.
