15. COMMENTS |
|
GITANA IV is a wooden Yawl built in 1962 by the Sangermani Shipyard, a shipyard that contributed to the history of yachting with its fast and beautiful vessels.
This 27.60m yacht, considered one of the most beautiful built by the Lavagna shipyard, is famous for being commissioned by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, and for winning several regattas including the Fastnet race, where it made a record that was unbroken for 19 years.
Despite being designed for races, GITANA IV ensures a high standard of comfort and accommodation for 6 passengers due to her broad and sheltered cockpit, her main saloon (which has a six-people table surrounded on three sides by couches), 3 cabins which have two berths, each with their own toilet, and her sundeck which is located on the roof of the main saloon and guest cabins. An important part of yachting history that can now be purchased.
The hull and equipment are continuously maintained and refitted to ensure maximum safety while sailing. At the end of every season the boat is moored at the AMICO & Co. shipyard in Genoa for routine and supplementary maintenance.
REFIT NOTES | |
A total refit in was carried out in 1992 by Pendennis Shipyard, England. A second refit was carried out in 1999 for consolidation of GITANA’s structure plus a reconstruction of part of the planking and revision of the keel and keel bolts. Numerous and constant maintenance/refits have been made since this date. In 2017 the hull was completely stripped and brought to wood and painted. In 2018 the teak and plywood over the deckhouse of the saloon and the guest cabin was renewed. |
|
HULL | |
In 2008, re-caulking of the teak deck was carried out, the topsides were repainted with white Awlgrip paint, and the covering board was replaced. In 2017 the hull was repainted with Awlgrip in snow white.
SAILS & RIGGING | |
Sails are replaced as necessary, the most recent being in 2018. |
|
The main mast was replaced in 2010, at which time both booms and the mizzen mast were completely overhauled and re-painted. At the same time, all the rod rigging, with associated rigging screws, were replaced by Navtec.
· Sails are usually on board. Additional sails are stored in the sail-loft.
