Overview

INTRO

AVALANCHE has an impressively voluminous and comfortable interior layout with many areas to enjoy, talk, live, play cards, dine. With four staterooms and four heads (sleeps 8), a lovely large salon and galley, a well-equipped nav station, workshop area and an outstanding cockpit that must be seen and felt to have any sense of appreciation, she is ideal for the cruise of a lifetime, long distance racing or shorthanded sailing. She's even easy to day sail with one person controlling the whole event.

She is very comfortable at sea and under current ownership has been making the round trip from Jamestown RI, to Antigua every year since 1998, except for 2019.

ACCOMMODATIONS

LAYOUT PLAN Starting from the bow:

A STORAGE LOCKER is located in the foc's'l, just aft the anchor locker. The shed, as it can be called due to the incredible volume, is large and well organized. It is accessed via a large Goiot hatch. A ladder leads below and there are areas available for storage of sails, lines, fenders, etc.

MASTER STATEROOM:

Next aft is the master stateroom. The extraordinary and large master stateroom fits well for long distance cruisers and liveaboard. A centerline queen berth with storage below and outboard, drawers, lockers, storage spaces are only a few of the great characteristics of the cabin; there is plentiful light and ventilation from the deck hatch.

There is a lovely en suite head with shower stall and large lockers. The shower stall and head are in separate compartments allowing privacy and flexibility, not to mention great convenience.

TWO GUEST STATEROOMS:

Next aft are two very spacious linen closets, and then following that, there are identical guest staterooms, one to port, the other to starboard each with en suite heads and showers. The starboard cabin has a fold down berth from the fore and aft bulkhead allowing for an additional berth, thus three berths in that cabin.

The beds in each may be converted to either two singles, or a large full berth, by the addition of built in fillers. Both options are shown in accompanying photos.

SALON, DINETTE, GALLEY:

The salon and galley are next aft and the salon to port has a U shaped settee with dining table that opens from cocktail to dining room size.  The table swivels to allow easy access to the outboard sitting areas and to facilitate food service. The galley is to starboard and has the necessary equipment to create gourmet meals. It has a huge refrigerator and freezer and often guests remark that they have not seen as large a frig on a 60 foot sailing yacht. Additionally, there is a deep freeze aft of the navigation station.

AFT CABIN:

The aft cabin is located aft of the galley, to starboard. There is a double berth and en suite head and integral shower.

NAVIGATION STATION, TOOL STORAGE:

Aft to port is the excellent forward facing Navigation station. There is a desk and separate chart area above the freezer (inboard of the passageway), electrical panels for DC and AC systems, lockers, storage areas, a tool area along with generator access and access to the steering cockpit.

ELECTRICAL

Avalanches electrical systems have been extensively re-fit with advanced very well thought out electrical systems. This allows independent, self-reliant living.

Her DC ship's system power supply is from eight, 8-D AGM batteries, with six of the batteries doubled in series to create 24V system, allowing for voltage to travel farther thus more efficient, yielding ultra high capacity.

Air conditioning is thru a chilled water loop running throughout the yacht yielding efficient powerful cooling capability needed for tropics cruising with individual air conditioning fans over cooling coils in each cabin with the advantage of controls. This is far more efficient and effective a system than to have individual air handler units in each cabin.

Her 50/60Hz electrical system has in series inverters to allow quiet time aboard without generators and when more power is required, a 12kW Northern Lights generator creates massive power for the yacht. Output is both 50 and 60hz. House batteries were new and upgraded in 2018. Engine and generator starting batteries in 2018.

  • Northern Lights 12kW generator
  • Sound-shield
  • 120/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz

Avalanche has a large cockpit that can comfortably seat as many as 10. Her swim platform also serves as a convenient dock making delivering groceries or baggage at anchor an easy task. BROKERS COMMENTS

Fabulously equipped for offshore sailing and extensive cruising, AVALANCHE is not only capable, fast and sea worthy, but she defines style and panache. More than just that, she is superbly comfortable and well thought out. Her strong hull handles what many lesser yachts would never attempt. Her motion is more suggestive of a ship than a yacht and she possesses stability, security and comfort few in her class can match. She is easily sailed by two, paramount in the owners thinking when purchased. The owners confidently and easily solo extensively in the North and South Atlantic.

She has been upgraded significantly by knowledgeable owners and is turnkey, ready to cross oceans. With so many new systems, items, upgrades, additions, re-engineering, she has been brought into the 21st century with the beauty and style of the past. She is a significant yacht VERY worthy of consideration and may not be around for long given her pedigree, age, size, layout, capabilities and superb value.
