Overview

R Boat “Ruweida” wins races! Available for sale for the first time after a complete restoration by IYRS in Newport. The top to bottom restoration was done over the winter of 2011-2012 by a group of passionate professionals and encompassed a new mast, extensive re-planking, re-decking, and re-rigging in order to make her a no-compromise classic racer. Following her emergence from the workshed in 2012 she has found the podium in almost every event she entered, winning or placing in the full circuit of NYYC, Herreshoff, Museum of Yachting, and Panerai events around Narragansett Bay every year since then.

R-Boats were a class of no-compromise racing sailboats built before the Great Depression for racing in Marblehead, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Ruweida V was designed by the great Starling Burgess in 1926 and built for Commodore Boggs of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead. R-Boats continue to be considered exceptionally beautiful, powerful, and weatherly boats and the rejuvenated R-Class enjoys close racing in New England to this day.

In 2017 Ruweida V raised the bar once again, adding both an Asymmetric and Symmetric spinnaker, the associated rigging, and hardware in a successful bid to win the 2017 NYYC Tiedemann Classics and Panerai IYRS Classic Regattas.
