Pyla is a fantastic yacht that we are reluctantly selling as we are moving to Switzerland with work. It has been a pleasure to own her for 4 years and explore the Solent. With her great looks she received many admiring comments in all the marinas we visited. She is easy to sail, well equipped and the benefits of both the retractable keel and bow thruster are all well documented. Below decks she is bright and comfortable with new upholstery covers in Agua Saffron fabric. Also the spray hood, cockpit enclosure, wheel/binnacle cover, sail cover and dodgers in navy blue are also new. We particularly like the galley position making it very sociable after a day sailing. The heating system allows nights away over the winter months very comfortably.
PYLA is a fantastic example of the Southerly 110 line of yachts. She has been meticulously well maintained and with a beautiful custom cream upholstery completing the stunning wooden finish, she really does look as good on the inside as she does on the outside. With her deep draft allowing for a fantastic offshore cruising performance and her shallow draft option allowing for coastal and inland cruising she truly is one terrifically versatile yacht.
The Southerly 110 with her aft cockpit, plumb bow line and twin rudder configuration, combined with her sail plan, makes her a fast, fun and exhilarating yacht to sail. Whitlock direct steering, combined with the twin rudder arrangement gives instantly responsive steering, making helming this yacht a real pleasure. Even when the wind increases and gusts attempt to push her off course, the hull form and deep draft of the Swing Keel enables her to stand up to the wind and carry her canvas, whilst the twin rudders give exceptional directional stability and control. In fact, the Southerly 110 is so light on the helm she will sail herself most of the time. Single line mainsail reefing and a furling genoa make sail handling easy – ideal for family or shorthanded sailing.
The tall fractional rig and self-tacking jib allows you to enjoy your sailing with minimum effort. The self-tacking jib means you can tack spontaneously, without effort, allowing you to sail in conditions that a conventional sail plan may not allow, such as in a harbour or congested area.
The unique Swing Keel provides deep draft performance (deeper than most yachts), for powerful windward performance. At the 'touch of a button' the keel can be raised to just 2'4'' for shallow draft freedom, allowing you to sail in coastal areas and inland waters. As with all Southerlys, the yacht will also dry out and sit upright.
As you go onboard the Southerly 110's traditional quality of build shines through. Good all round views, a spacious saloon, open galley, raised chart table and large aft cabin are particular features on this yacht.
Designed by Rob Humphreys and Southerly In-House Design Office.
RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean” (or Cat B – whichever is appropriate)
