Overview
Surprisingly, for a vessel whose production run spans a mere 199 units built, the large following and stellar reputation of this world cruiser speaks volumes to its comfort, sea-kindly sailing characteristics, and "bullet-proof" construction. Strength, copious storage and more than adequate tankage are hallmarks of this boat, appreciated by live-aboards and long distance cruisers. Not surprisingly, the current owners, after 20 years of cruising aboard LORBAS, struggled with the decision to let her go. That decision having been made, LORBAS is ready to welcome and care for her new discriminating owners. Rarely does an opportunity such as this present itself, and it should not be missed.
Introduction
LORBAS was first purchased as a hull and deck by a marina owner, who had her professionally finished under his watchful and experienced eye. Solid oak flooring, varnished teak trim and basket weave locker doors are just a few of the construction details of this yacht. The sloop rig was chosen because that is the sail plan that makes the best use of the light to moderate winds most encountered by cruising sailors. For more "exciting" wind conditions, furling and reefing are easily accomplished. But make no mistake, the almost 3:1 ballast to displacement ratio, in conjunction with wisely distributed weight under the center of effort, makes for a comfortable, safe, and speedy passage maker.
Vessel Walkthrough & Accommodations
From the cockpit, one enters the Pilothouse with inside steering and good visibility. To port of the mid-ships helm is a large navigation station with a beautiful inlaid wood compass rose desk top. The comfortable seat back can be angled forward to accommodate a double berth size quarterberth aft. Adjacent to the nav station is the 12 volt/120 volt electrical panel and lower station electronics including stereo system. To starboard is a single sea berth with lots of storage behind and over. Facing aft and left of the companionway ladder is a door to the cavernous storage area under the cockpit with excellent access to steering elements, batteries, and equipment.
Forward of the pilothouse is the galley area and then the main salon. The galley features a double sink and large countertop, a 2010 Force Ten two burner propane stove and oven with broiler. Opposite to starboard is a large double top loading ice box with 2010 Adler Barbour refrigeration system with freezer. Abundant storage for pots, pans, dishes and supplies is available. Accommodating both galley and main salon area is a newly installed Force Ten propane cabin heater.
The roomy main salon features a varnished teak center-line table with drop leaves and storage, two facing settees with storage lockers behind and under, and a flat screen 20" TV with DVD player. Solid hardwood oak flooring is throughout the boat's interior. In addition to the 12 volt lighting throughout, two bulkhead mounted kerosene (Lamp oil) hurricane lamps and hanging (trawler) lamp gives the interior a warm, inviting glow in the evening using zero watts of electricity. Additional light and fresh air is afforded through the five overhead hatches with covers.
Forward, the head is located to starboard with sink, manual Raritan head with Y-valve, holding tank with mascerator. There are lockers and storage to starboard along with the shower. Forward to the Master Stateroom is a large double berth to starboard with opening hatches and storage lockers.
