"Distant Drum" is a world cruiser. In her lifetime, she has sailed through the Panama Canal twice, completed six trips to the Bahamas, five trips to New England and Maine, been lived aboard for two years and has been a wonderful family cruising boat for her current owners for over twenty years. They have spared no cost and no detail in maintaining her, and still sail her regularly. She can be easily single handed.
The Gulfstar 50 is a tried-and-true classic Lazarra design. Over 170 were built between the years of 1975 and 1980, and many of them are still around and are highly sought-after. The Gulfstar craftsmanship was superior to other vessels of the time, which is evident in the interior woodwork, the layout, and the thickness and sturdiness of the hull. She was one of the early "modified cruising keels," giving her the performance benefit of a fin keel with the solidity and seaworthiness of a full keel. She is a safe and seaworthy boat! Come see her today!

Accommodations This is a roomy yacht for such a high-performance sailing vessel. In the GulfStar tradition, the teak and joinery on the interior is superb, lending the feeling of class and comfort. Upon entering the companionway from the spacious cockpit, you find the galley to port and nav station (which is very big!) to starboard. Forward, the salon table to port seats 6 and there is additional seating space to starboard. The v-berth has its own private head, which opens from both sides, and has a separate stall shower. Moving aft through the galley and the walkthrough, there is a walk-in door to the engine room (which can also be accessed for easy maintenance underneath the companionway stairs) and then the stern opens up into a large aft cabin with a double berth and another private head. There is NO shortage of storage on this boat, and she is a great family cruiser! |
She is a solid and well-maintained boat that has been very well cared for and continuously used. She has brand new bottom paint, no blisters, and the hull and deck are rock-solid. Call me and let's go see her! |
