History

Fair Wind is a proven bluewater cruiser.  Taiwan constructed.  She has enjoyed several owners who all cared for her very well as evidenced by her above average condtion as noted on a recent survey.  Previously reported to have travelled from the Pacific Northwest thought the Panama canal and through the Caribbean. In 1994 she adventured safely across the Atlantic from the Chesapeake to Bermuda, the Azores, Ireland, Scotland and returned via Iceland, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and back to the Chesapeake.  They sold it in 1999 to the next owners who took it to the Great Lakes and owned her for 10 years.   A new Yanmar engine was installed in 2003.   The next buyers purchased her in 2008 to 2018 and kept her on Lake Erie until they brought her to Florida in 2014.  The Yanmar has been in freshwater for the greater portion of its life.

Vessel description and construction

"Fair Wind" is a 1982 Lord Nelson 41, masthead cutter rigged, canoe stern, aft cockpit sailboat.  She has a full keel, prounched sheer and high bulwarks and teak bowsprit.   The 3' high 1 1/2" SS stanchions and double lifelines coupled with high toerail and large anchor platform give the crew room to work securely on deck.  The mast is stepped on deck and uses a solid wood compression post under the cabin trunk.  Heavy SS safety bars are on each side the mast.
