Overview

Very nicely presented example of this Dick Zaal-designed centre cockpit Contest 40S cruiser. Taller than standard rig ensures great performance under sail and larger than standard engine takes care of passage under power.

PALADIN was built and has been maintained to the highest standards. She has been meticulously upgraded by the current and previous owners. She can be sailed single handed and offers comfortable cruising luxury. A summary of her upgrades includes:

 

"Stainless steel heavy duty 1000w windlass with up and down control, removable inner forestay with blade and storm jib. Non-slip treatment to forward slope of coach roof. Low-friction rollers lead genoa reefing line outboard of stanchions. Clutch on port toe-rail to lock genoa reefing line.

 

Demountable seat fits in companion-way hatch slides – great for foul weather watch keeper. Extra winch on starboard aft of cockpit for gennaker etc.

Waterproof magnetic shielded radio speakers in cockpit, solar cells mounted on cockpit combing and coach roof, derrick on aft port quarter for MoB, outboard etc new folding davits 2012. Shelf in port lazarette. Riding sail mounts to back-stay. Additional deck hatch by way of forward companion way gives light and ventilation to heads area. Stowable hanging rail in forward head. High quality fluorescent light in saloon with low power consumption, Icom VHF with DSC linked to GPS, combined Navtex and central data screen, recent Raytheon S3G (‘gyro’) autopilot controller gives superior performance. Twin alternators with Adverc intelligent controller.

Salt water pump to galley, filtered water tap to galley. Additional opening portholes in master cabin. Good capacity holding tank to aft head with diverter valve and macerator. Skin fittings and seacocks replaced HYS 2010. Variprop feathering propeller gives excellent performance and features individual external pitch adjustment allowing finer pitch going astern. Heavy duty rope cutter.

RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC (Recreational Craft Directive) as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.
