Overview
Introduction
In 1925 the distinguished yachtsmen Junis S. Morgan and George Nichols commissioned Nat Herreshoff to design and build GAMECOCK, a racing yacht, to the "R" Universal Rating Rule. The art of classic yacht design and construction were at their peak during the 1920's at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in Bristol RI. Herreshoff designed and built the successful America's Cup racing yachts of the era. Their yachts were fast, beautiful, and well engineered. GAMECOCK is an excellent example of the Herreshoff genius for beauty, function and quality.
In 2000 - 2001 David Peterson of Wooden Tangent Yachts undertook a museum quality restoration of GAMECOCK. The work was guided by the original Herreshoff plans and construction notes for GAMECOCK. The restoration included many new frames, planks, complete refastening, new decks, new rigging, etc. The current owner purchased the yacht in 2002. She was surveyed by the wood boat specialist Ed Davis, and all recommendations were completed. Davis commented, "The vessel is an irreplaceable Herreshoff original and is faithful to the original construction and materials. In that sense the vessel is priceless.". Ed Davis survey's Gamecock each year. GAMECOCK maintained by John Williams Boat Company.

GAMECOCK is an elegant, beautiful day sailor with an impeccable pedigree.
Hull
Full keel with attached rudder. Lead keel and bronze keelbolts.White oak floor timbers. Mahogany planking on oak frames on 10.4" centers with silicon bronze screw and bolts. Single planked below the waterline and double planked above. White oak deck beams. The deck is wood sprung and nibbed into the king plank. The deck is covered with painted cotton duck canvas with no seams in the original manner. The underside of the deck has 11/2" bronze strapping let into the deck beams for strength as per Herreshoff plan. Trademark Herreshoff varnished oak sheer plank. White topsides and green bottom. Self bailing cockpit. Two varnished mahogany hatches. Varnished mahogany trim. Tiller steering.
The interior is open. Two small lockers are built with raised panels and the areas behind covered with butternut ceiling. Framing is left exposed as per the original plan.
In 2014 John Williams Boat Company, stripped entire hull, puttied, red leaded; filled and fared; primed and painted with 3 top coats. Mast, boom, and brightwork varnished.

Sails and Rigging
7/8 Marconi sloop. Varnished hollow Herreshoff Sitka spruce mast with external sailtrack. New boom. 7x19 stainless steel wire standing rigging, splices and Castalok fittings with bronze turnbuckles. Running rigging is 3 stand hemp - like synthetic. New J M Reineck Herreshoff roller bearing bronze blocks. Herreshoff bronze halyard winch with spare authentic reproduction bronze handle. 2 new bronze Lewmar self tailing sheet winches. 2 new bronze bronze self tailing main sheet winches. (These winches make it easy for 1 person to sail the yacht, they can be removed if you wish). Herreshoff running backstay system with track, slides ( with invisible Delerin bearings for easy operation) and control pole. New custom bronze tiller comb for securing the rudder on the mooring or while sailing. Custom winch handle holders. 2002 Nat Wilson sails as per the original sailplan. Traditional cut, detailing and sail cloth. Main, jib and genoa. Herreshoff bronze cleats.
